She is also the author of a published novel, which became the point of departure for her first long-term Research Programme, Journey of a Manuscript.
Her research investigates the conditions under which familiar cultural realities continue to exist after the conventional conditions that define them become insufficient.
Working through installation, sculpture, painting, kinetic systems, video and mixed media, she constructs experimental artistic systems in which literature, material forms of orientation and human-made objects are placed into impossible coexistences. Rather than illustrating philosophical ideas, her works function as material experiments through which new conditions of existence become observable.
Her research is organised through three long-term Research Programmes — Journey of a Manuscript, Our Bearings, and The Double Life of Objects — which together form the Artistic Research Framework.
Before developing her artistic research practice, Shaura spent more than two decades working in residential architecture and construction. This long-term engagement with architectural planning, engineering systems and urban space continues to inform the experimental methodology of her research.
