A Mind of Its Own investigates what happens when an ordinary manufactured object no longer fully submits to the intentions imposed upon it.
Each sculpture is constructed from the same industrial object—a yoga mat—placed within an identical architectural frame. The frame remains unchanged throughout the series, establishing a constant system of order, proportion and control. The object does not.
Rather than functioning as passive material, it gradually begins to behave according to its own material logic. It resists, reveals itself, withdraws, reorganises itself and ultimately exceeds the architectural boundary intended to contain it.
The series is neither anthropomorphic nor symbolic. Instead, it proposes that an ordinary object can become the site of two incompatible forces: the human will to impose form and the persistent tendency of matter to recover its own possibilities.
Across five sculptures, the same conflict unfolds through different material behaviours, progressing from containment to physical displacement.
